Gobble Gobble

Took my 5 YO Mason out last day of B week.

Yesterday I was hoping to get out with Julio from Outdoors Addiction. We were heading out early yesterday for a camping trip near the chum bucket so the turkey hunt didnt happen. I was going to film Julio.

We got up late and were behind schedule like always, Grin.

So around 8am Mason says dad i want to go turkey hunting. Mary says you taking him? I guess? So I get my gear ans small camera. we walk out behind the house. Now im carrying the gun vest decoys and mason on my shoulders. we walked a good ways and found some tracks. we were kinda in the area where i shot my bird on opening morning. so we walk/carry to the spot. I had a ground blind set up but did not get in it. i set up the camera and made a few calls. within minutes i hear a hen calling back to me. so i hit the gobbler call a few times and i see her about 100 yards away. she was making her way toward us and you guessed it GOBBLE GOBBLE a big tome and another hen. the one hen get about 20 feet from us and makes us. the tom was about 50 yard away at full strut. the hen started to walk away so i decided to shoot. i hit the bird. he went down and got up and flew. got most of it on video. mason and i tracked the bird, kinda. it sounded like the bird went about 50 to 60 yrd and went down hard. we quickly checked but found nothing. mason and pulled it together and slowed down and tracked slowly. we assumed the bird went down hard in the swamp. super thick.

going back the second time we blew one of the hens out of a tree. this should have been my first clue.

i pick up mason and walk into the swamp where we think the bird went down. we didnt know the bird was 20 feet in a tree. we blew him off his roost and he was having a hard time flying. we looked for a long time but never got him. we had so much fun and mason and he got to see so much. the video is great.
Take your video camera with you, make the hunt last forever.

Even though it wasn't a successful harvest, I think it was probably one of your most successful hunts
Mason was with you and you both had a great time . . . time together and in the outdoors . . . now that's success
