Everyone probably knows this technique but I love to tell it because it works fairly well.
With practice you can amaze yourself with your accuracy.
So you say you don't want to get your hook/lure caught in the branches?
So you say it's your favorite lure and you don't want to lose it?
So you say, "Hey there's fish under there"?
So you say it's a tight spot?
So its a hot afternoon and you're in your waders and the fish are hiding where its a bit cooler.
So you want to show off and show what an expert you are?
This should work for one to two pole lengths depending on how long your arms are.
So you've got your pole in one hand, CAREFULLY, between your thumb and forefinger, hold the bight of the hook (for a lure make sure its the last treble). Hold it real firm so it doesn't slip out of your fingers till you are ready to release the hook. Let out the amount of line you need to get to the spot you want the bait/lure to land that has no obstruction between you and the spot. Reel must be set to not let out more line. Pole pointed at THE SPOT. Now it gets exciting. Pull back on the hook, the pole tip will bend like a bow. CAREFULLY release the hook and it should shoot and deposit just a about where you wanted it to.
If you wore a fishing glove to avoid any accidental hooking of your finger, no one will consider you a wuss, just another smart ass fisherman.
