If you are looking for a great place to pheasant hunt try out Little River in South Dakota. This place is insain. Everything is inlcluded in the price of the hunt and the number if birds is almost unbelievable. We will be there again in three weeks and I can't hardly sleep at night the way it is. This will be the third year. If it is anything like last year it will be fantastic. I talked with the dog trainer and head guide Paul and he said there is actually more birds this year then last and last year was supposed to be the most pheasants the state had in like the last 30 years. It was incredible. We got to the end of one field on the second day of the hunt and I know 200 or more pheasants piled out all at one time. It was about the most exciting hunting experience I have ever had. Paul had told me prior to going out the first year we were there that sometimes you will get in areas where a few hundred birds will flush at one time. I didn't quite know if I believed hundreds at one time but I did believe a bunch because the numbers of birds is incredible. You literally couldn't choose a bird to shoot at. Everytime I got on one another big fat rooster with a long tail would get up closer, LOL. The dogs are also incredible. Watching those great dogs working is almost as fun as the hunt. For me it is anyway. Paul trains them all. They mostly hunt with German Shorthairs. He will have four, five, even six out in the field with us at once at times. He said it depends on how many people are hunting and how many customers have dogs. They do the most amazing thing. Well to me anyway. He will toot his whistle or say hupp and every dog stops and turns around and goes the other direction. I have no idea how someone gets them to do that but it is really cool. They criss-cross each other all day long. I even seen once last year with five dogs out one pointed at a pheasant and the others all stopped when they noticed the dog pointing and pointed at that dog. I think he said they were honoring or something like that. It was amazing to a rookie dog guy like me anyway. Well I guess I was able to release a little excitement on this post. I can't wait. My buddy and I talk about our trip almost every night. We are like a couple of kids. My wife said I am setting myself up for a big disapointment if it doesn't go as well as last year. If it is only half as good as the last two years it will still be incredible. If you want to experience a great hunt go to their website and give Paul a call. The website is http://www.littleriverpheasanthunts.com. Good luck hunting this season everyone.
