First you got to skin them

Then the fleshing of the hide.

And then the boarding of the fur to dry.

ADC is getting around isn't he?
same with phil.
phil must have a pin shortage. i put a lot more on, but remove half after about 2 days.

stiks was over last night, we talked a little about the coming season. but mostly about bow season starting. he's gona try and jump on my boat on sunday for a little weakfishing.

are you doning anything different this season to try and put more fur in the shed? if the snares are giving you a tough time get some cages and hit the coon harder. i'm looking forward to the lil' grizz coming to us.

my coon ave $14, $16 high
rats ave $4.00, $5 high
reds ave $16, high $22
grey ave $35, high $45
coyote ave $25
i don't trap beaver.

coon is were it's at. greys are higher but you can catch 5 coon to every grey.
with the china demand over because of the olypics starting, there may be a drop on some things, otter, beaver, cats, fisher, and martin. they also buy low grade rats.
russia will keep the coon going.
wait and see.
don't matter much to me, i'm still setting. the money is a bonus.

Yeah Joe ADC sure gets around. I thought it was a good thread including all the videos so I copied them to post here. I plan on hanging a lot more snares than last yr. Getting such a late start I only had 12-15 snares set at any given time. This yr I have 5 dozen made and ready to go. I have 3 live traps now but plan on getting a couple more. They are a great thing to fall back on, but I plan on really putting the leashes on some animals. And I hope to get some Lil Grizzes for next yr also they just seem flawless!!! Are they a definite??

they still have to go in front of the council.
andy has all his ducks in a row. he is also trying to get the beisle foot snare for us. if you haven't seen them, they are a foothold, but the jaws cary a small snare. the jaws are offset so they don't close all the way, just carry the snare up the leg.
if all goes well we will get them both. don't load up on grizzes yet.

I was under the impression that the beisle foot snare were legal in New Jersey.

The way the laws are written..They only pretain to 'Bodygripping Snares'.

They are no laws regarding the size , shape, trigger mech, etc. of Box traps..Does that make them illegal?

I am probably wrong but I thought I'd bring up the question.

What about fremont foot snares.? Or the type that throw the snare over the aminals head?(Collarum)

I was under the impression that the beisle foot snare were legal in New Jersey.

a guy i know got caught with the ram snares down in cape may. they don't have a deer stop. but i thought No power actuated snares were legal. newt was telling me that when they(belisle) are legal he wanted to use them. i'm pretty sure he knows if they are or aren't. ask him about having leg holds if you ever see him. :o

but we may be able to use them were you you can use a mink snare. but the problem is mink snares need to be smaller cable.
Body gripping restraining snares set for
mink, muskrat and nutria are subject to the
following requirements:
• All such traps must be constructed of aircraft
cable or crucible wire measuring 1/32,
3/64 or 1/16 inches in diameter, equipped
with a swivel and set within 50 feet of the
mean high water line;
• All such traps must be equipped with a stop
to prevent the average loop diameter from
exceeding 4 inches

but for k9 and coon.
Body gripping restraining snares set for coyote,
fox, opossum, raccoon, skunk and weasel
shall be subject to the following requirements:
• All such traps must be constructed of aircraft
cable of crucible wire measuring from
5/64 to 1/8 inches in diameter and be
equipped with a swivel;
• All such traps must be equipped with a deer
stop locate no less than 6 inches from the
beginning of the cable and a loop stop to prevent
the average loop diameter from exceeding
12 inches

so we can't use the thin cable, 5/64 and up, plus a deer stop. won't work on the leg.

i don't think they care about cages that much.

i had a few emails with andy a while ago about the grizz. i thought he also wrote about the foot snares being pushed also. not sure about the collarum snares.

I'm sure the ram snares are considered Body Gripping restraining snares, and thus would require the added stops cable dia. etc. etc.

The books specifically state 'Body Gripping restraining snares' . Fremont and belise are not Body Gripping Restraining snare.

The fremont and Belise are foot snares...The state uses the fremont snare for captureing Bears. (larger size of course)

I also know for a fact that they use Collarum snares for Coyotes.

They do not use Steel-Jawed Leg-holds however, because they were out lawed. (So I assume the state also needs to abide by the laws)

The state needs to define the laws more clearer...They also say the locks need to be of the 'relaxing type' as opposed to ' non-relaxing' but they don't define which locks are or aren't relaxing !

If I built a deadfall with a figure 4 trigger, would it be legal??? (Provided the bait was covered)

I welcome the dog-proofs with open arms but my question is : Are newly invented traps legal till proven illegal or visea - versa.

trappers in nj? or state trappers?i don't think we can use any power assisted snares. but we can't trap bears either. i could be wrong on this. maybe a email is in order. if i have time i'll email andy to see what his take is. i think i'll call the gloucester county warden to see what he says. he took his class with me. i'm good friends with the trapping teacher, trenton-south. he may know.
if we could use the foot snares i need to get buying.

this also should be done, but we have some of the most open snare laws in north america, so we'll just leave well enough alone.
the way ron(redneck) tells it, any lock without a kill spring and any moving parts(camlocks) is ok. he would like to push it and say cams are legal, but shys the students away from them. he is a washer lock guy. i like my bmi's, slims and micros. they aren't as "relaxing" as a washer, but are have a very small profile, and very hard to see.

I welcome the dog-proofs with open arms but my question is : Are newly invented traps legal till proven illegal or visea - versa.

i think any change or addition must be approved first. andy was gathering catch pictures, paw pictures, ect. he will make his pitch at the chages for 09-10 season.
i have had my hands on lil grizzes 8-) the spring is very, very strong. it may be tough fight. but any new tool for jersey trapper could be put to use. some guys have a heck of a time getting a leash on a k9 or coon. right mark :)
