+1 Dave, and nice to see you(I NEVER go to that other site anymore,LMAO). I have always said that anyone who tells me that fosters are no good beyond 50 yards has never shot a smoothbore slug gun off the bench with a rigidly mounted scope, and therefore has no clue as to what they can really do. I to, like you, have had the best accuracy in a wide variety of smoothbore slug barrels with the 2 3/4 Winchester fosters.

While I am fortunate to have a wide variety of slug guns with both smoothbore and rifled barrels, my favorite 'go to' slug gun is this one.

This used to be a Winchester 1300 Ranger, and then I reworked it and made it to my liking.
20 gauge, 22 inch smoothbore barrel, Weaver style rings and bases, Bushnell Banner 1.5X4.5 variable with duplex recticle. The forend is from a Winchester model 12 that I reworked to fit the 1300 and the stock is from a Winchester 275 22 Magnum pump, which was manufactuered between 1964 to 1972(I think), and I was able to fit it to the gun. It's a pleasure to shoot, and carry, and while it looks pretty, it's a shooter too.

Thank god you explained what that gun was, because it looked like a cross between a couple of different guns and I thought I was going to go crazy trying to figure out what it was! It looks deadly and as a custom gun goes you did a fantastic job on it!

As for those Winchester slugs, I shot all sorts of ammo through the guns I have and the old Mosseburg really performed well with those 3.00 dollar a box Winchesters so that is what I loaded up on. I must have 4 dozen boxes of the slugs

I am currently looking for an Ithica Model 37 deerslayer (used). My friend shoots Federal smoothbore slugs out of it and the thing is a tack driver!

The other would be my Remington 11-87 SPS, 12ga., with Winchester Supremes Golds 2-3/4", also topped off with a Leupold VX-II 3-9x40

Yup, the Ithaca 37s are indeed tackdrivers, smoothbore barrel and all. I used to have one, 1963 vintage, but it was passed on to number one son. 20 inch smoothbore Ithaca barrel, same scope as on my 1300 and winchester foster slugs. Number one son recently shot a doe with it, one shot, bang flop at 129 lasered yards, yup, 129, thats not a typo.

You might try this place, they had about half a dozen used 37's the last time I was up there:

Bob's Gun Exchange
Address: 2688 Route 17m, Goshen, NY 10924
Phone: (845) 294-9401

I know Bob got very ill and sold the business, but might be worth a phone call.

I use an 11-87 w/cantilever rifled barrel with the Lightfield 2 3/4" slugs.

I'm really comfortable with it up to 100 yards.

Browning BPS 30" barrel, 3" magnum with open sites I installed. Shoots Remington slugs 3" groups at 100'. I also use 2 3/4 o buck in thick cover and when doing drives in it, as it seems to have the best pattern out to 45'.

I use a 12ga. H&R UltraSlug Hunter with a 3x9 Nikon Slughunter scope with the BDC reticule. I also have a limbsaver recoil pad on my UltraSlug. 3-shot groups at 100 yds are usually a single jagged hole or a tight clover-leaf from a sandbagged benchrest. My UltraSlug prefers the untipped 3" Federal Barnes Expander sabot slug. It will also shoot the Remington Copper solid pretty accurately but not quite as accurately. Three other guys in my hunting club use the 12ga. UltraSlug for deer too. Strange as this may seem, each gun prefers a different sabot slug. Mine prefers the untipped 3" Federal Barnes Expander, another prefers the Remington Copper solid, and still another will only shoot well with the Lightfield EXP slugs. Go figure. I also have an Ithaca Deerslayer III I inherited this year when my father-in-law passed away. I haven't used it yet but I plan on taking it to the range this summer to see what it will do. He had a couple of boxes of Remington Copper Solids in his gun cabinet so I assume that is what his Deerslayer prefers as that was his only slug gun.
