My new 405fps Crossbow :)

Postby dave50cal » Wed Sep 10, 2008 1:10 pm

Heres somthing for you anti xbowers.....

Blew the whole wallet last night on a 2008 Bowtech Stryker. This sucker is sick fast..405fps  Its dead nuts to 60 yards every shot with my slick tricks. Fixed heads that perform at over 400fps
My LEGALLY LICENSED father will be shooting it this season, but I guess now that the laws are changing next year,it will be with me
Sick peice of equipment. I do not regret the 1600.00 price tag ;)

100 grain Slick Trick Magnums are shooting bulls at 60 yards at 400+fps... Great head!

As predicted. 60 yards you say? That thing should be good out to at LEAST 100 if you have a scope with a ranging recital and low wind.

I'd love to see that thing in action. Let me know if this is possible and where/when.

Good luck to Dad this season,

George

Without any doubt.

The key is consistency.

Draw and cock, make sure your string is cocked center and all major form issues are removed.

Use well balanced and mated bolts, with low wind, rest the crossbow or shoot prone for a stable shot, hold breath 1/2 way out, no coffee to give you the jitters that morning, aim your 10x powered scope down range at the known distance (marker or range finder) and squeeze.

Just like shooting a rifle but the drop is greater so know your yardage. Time of flight is also greater so a target on the move is not possible.

Of course... I'd love to try this in practice and be proven wrong if anyone has a scoped crossbow at a range we can shoot at who would be willing to let me squeeze a few dozen bolts off. I've never actually fired a crossbow before :-)

60 yards is pretty hard with the scope that came with the bow..3 dot red dot. The dots are just too big for a consistant 100 yard shot. My father was smacking EXACT bulls with this thing setup with the tricks. Amazing accuracy. I shot it a few times but I would guess I was flinching a tiny bit,I was shooting high a bit. The ol man is just so good at shooting through a scope..he was just smoking em in the bulls. This thing blows through my 24 inch thick cubes, then through the hay bales, and either were sticking in the 3/4 ply back stop or a few actually blew through that as well. we finally just put two blocks about 2 ft from each other so it would go through the first and stop in the second. To see where he was shooting,I had to put up shoot and see rifle targets..new one every shot. Three dots,20,40 and 60 yards. Just an amazing peice of equip. I will video him shooting tomorrow night and try to post with a youtube link. Dave

Dave50Cal,

I'm glad your Dad will be able to hunt with a crossbow, but with all due respect, I hope the Stryker is really looked at by the F&G for hunting with this weapon.

What you described in your post about this particular crossbow is; not only is it a killing machine, but you need backstops while shooting this. I'd hate to be the person in it's path that's beyond your target if your hunting from the ground. You'll need to know your target and beyond the beyond from the sounds of it.

I can see it now..."Orange hunting vests coming to an area near you."

IMO, this is one reason why NJ should have fps/lb limits on hunting deer. We aren't hunting water buffalo here. No need. :banghead:

THAT is THE RULE FOR ANY WEAPON (and not just in hunting situations).......Period

As for the "hundred yard" thing......

Howard Hill is Documented killing game @ OVER 100 yards with a LONG BOW.......

So does that make a Long Bow a one hundred yard plus weapon???

Certainly NOT........NOR is the Stryker a 100 yard + weapon either.........

Shooting targets longer is "one thing" living moving animals is quite another one...... and publicly stating otherwise is only asking for mistakes to be made that SHOULD be avoided IMO..........

I shoot targets almost daily with a recurve past 60 yards.......but WOULD NOT shoot live animal anywhere near that range, with one..........nor would most responsible ethical hunters.....targets rarely move and NEVER end up wounded dying a terrible death....... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Anyone can shoot a crossbow accurately, but to shoot a BOW and Arrow, different story! Lets keep it real, I have nothing against the two but you have to keep it REAL.

Good luck to all with Bow,Crossbow, slingshot, boomerang....lolol
