Broadhead Advice Please!

Postby P51 » Mon Aug 18, 2008 10:52 pm

I have been shooting very tight and consistent groups with field points. I just bought Crimson Talon XT broadheads of the same weight and my shots, while still grouping well, are hitting about 6" to the left of my point of aim. Should I adjust my sight to compensate or or try something else? I'm using graphite arrows with 4" vanes. A friend recommended I use Quik Spin vanes.

you should absolutely adjust your sight to match your broadheads. All in All broadheads are the real deal are what you hunt with. I always have to adjust my sights some for broadheads.

Don't touch your sights yet... barshaft plan your set-up first... take 3 arrows and take off the fletching w/ field points, keep 3 arrows fletched w/ BH's.

Shoot all 6 arrows in to a target, then adjust so that both sets group together. this will tune your set-up better then just moving a pin/sight. This works on both wheelie bows & Trad bows, and is the best way to fine tune bow to arrow

Try the BLAZER VANES they seem to help steer the boadhead somewhat better. I use either The 2 blade RAGE or the 3 blade Muzzy, both in 100grs., and they both fly just like my field tips.

Also I'm old school, I line my blades up with my vanes (muzzys) but also one thing you should do is, once the broadhead is on your arrow lined up or not, is to spin test them. Spin the broadhead on it's tip, like a child's top toy, see if you have a wobble if you don't great, if you do then you need to heat the shaft up to loosen the glue and slowly turn the shaft while having the broadhead is not moving, repeat if needed

Good Luck!!!!

Try fletching 1 shaft with 4 " feathers slight helical. this just may correct shaft in flight & solve problem. If not, try different broadhead.

i shoot the same heads. i love them. they are very strong heads. shot multiple deer with the same head. i too had the same problem with them flying to the left , about three to four inches . i set the sights to my broadheads. the first time i shot a deer with them i shot a little too far forward. the heads broke thru both front legs and shoulders. complete pass thru. she didnt go very far. bent the blades on the heads but the heads never came apart.

ok...here's the deal on broadheads, all the advice you were given was pretty good, but if the bow is shooting fieldtips consistent and the bow is paper tuned correctly, you need to find a head that shoots well out of your bow. luckey for you i have shoot just about every head out there. I use Blazer vanes 2"

For fixed use the Slick Trick Magnum or Grizz Trick 100, they have no plane up to 60yds.

For expandable use the Undertaker by "trophy Ridge".

I guarantee one of these heads will fly exactly like your field tips. See wasn't that easy!! :D
