Bow hunting in windy conditions

Bow hunting in windy conditions

Postby almaink » Wed Oct 29, 2008 2:50 pm

So I've been fighting this wind, feeling like I've been in a boat on rough seas, all week, and not seen a single tail. Been bow hunting now for 22 years, and I've yet to shoot a deer, on a windy day. You'd think by now I would get smart and stay home, but no, this close to the rut you never know WTF could happen so out I go again this afternoon. Anyone besides me this crazy or have any had success in heavy winds?

I seen alot of deer out and about on the way home from work,I dont think the wind effects movement, but may effect us when we look outside and see the trees bending over.Ive shot quite few on nasty days when everyone else is staying home.

I agree with Cory...I've seen plenty of deer on windy days. Like you, I'll sit in the woods with the winds whipping thinking that there's no way any deer are going to be moving around in this...and every time I am proven wrong...stick with it!

U cant kill one from the couch. Get out there. If its too windy to get in the stand, set up a ground blind.

Ya I know U can't see or shoot them if you ain't out there but, I've been keeping records this year.
The only days I saw no deer at all, were days with wind speed over 15 Mph. Every other day I saw at least one doe. Since I can't, (even tho I'd like to), hunt every single day, I think I'll use this data next season and only hunt on days with wind speed less than 15 Mph. BTW ground blinds won't fly where I'm at, it's all swampland with very few dry spots. Also if I sat In a ground blind, I could only see maybe 5 feet, as it's also very thick in those dry spots.
