Darton Stinger Bow, Arrows, Case, Quiver, Sight, Rest & More

Postby neilsky » Wed Sep 29, 2010 10:44 am

Darton built this collector's item for exactly one year in 1991. Currently set up to be shot LH, it can easily be changed over to RH. Not a crossbow, but not your average compound either; you hold the bow by its laminated pistol grip, and shoot it canted at a 45º angle. Adjusts from 28" to 31" draw lengths. Includes Bodoodle capture-rest, Truglo tritium 3-pin sight, detachable Bohning quiver, Timberline No-Peep, full set of BowJax string silencers, release loop, fifteen 2215 Easton Maxxum aluminum arrows w/ 100gr field tips and 4" vanes, padded black ballistic nylon carrying case, MTM compact arrow case, folding Simms stabilizer/vibration damper, and a custom-made detachable bow quiver. Original Dacron string has been replaced with one made of Fastflite. Everything in excellent shape. With xerox copy of orignal manual, extra LH flipper rest, but no release. Shoots accurately at early '90's speeds and noise levels. (Replace the Fastflite string with one made of Dacron again, and it would be quieter.) Have hunted and taken 2 deer with this bow. This is a working collector's item, and a real hoot to shoot. $250 plus shipping.

Actually, it's very easy to to hold and shoot. You hold the pistol grip with your bow hand, and the padded brace rests on you forearm/biceps so you don't feel like you're holding that much draw weight. The bow is actually canted at a 45º angle to the ground, not flat, like you'd expect. You draw your release back to you normal anchor point. Setting it up can be a pain, but once it's dialed in, it shot well for me. Biggest hassle was setting up the peep eliminator. Since you don't draw the string across your field of vision, there's no place to put a peep sight. Other than that, setting it up went pretty smoothly. I got lucky in that Norb Mullaney (the guy who writes the Bow reports for Bowhunting World) sent me a copy of the original owner's manual he happened to have in his files. The bow is ambidexterous; it can be shot either left or right hand by simply switching the rest and sight from one side to the other. This is not only an oddity for a collector, but it's also huntable novelty. It's loud by today's standards, especially since I replaced the original dacron string with one made of fastflite to make it faster, but switching back to a dacron one would drop the noise levels considerably. (Note all the bowjacks on it.) I'd probably recommend going back to dacron for the sake of the limbs, anyway. Case, arrows and accessories all included. I'm selling this to help finance a Byron Ferguson longbow I've been lusting after for a while. Help! ;-)

Thanks,
Neil
