Server trouble last night (and this morning)

Server trouble last night (and this morning)

Postby XexorZ » Tue Aug 05, 2008 3:49 am

As many of you know the site crashed something fierce today.

This was due to our account being deactivated by our server provider (gasp!)

Apparently we have been consuming too much of their CPU time!

I have made some changes to the chat in hopes of relieving the CPU consumption but we shall see if this is going to be enough as I do not have access to see the actual CPU usage with my own eyes......

Worse case scenario we will need to move the site to a dedicated server which I was hoping we would not need to do anytime soon as it will cost a substantial amount more than our current shared server.

More to come and keep those fingers crossed!

Fingers and toes crossed from me, as well, George. Glad you were able to get the site up and running, again. Thanks for doing a great job.

Thanks everyone - keep in mind that this site will stay up no matter what we have to do - it may just take some time to find a new home (server) once this one is no longer a welcomed one.

Update on what happened:
Our PHP script in the Chat room seems to have been using up a huge amount of CPU time. I did some code modifications today to try to cut this down (I estimate it will reduce CPU time by several fold...) This SHOULD keep things "happy" for at least a few more months... assuming this is really the center of the problem and if my code changes work properly.

Also, please make sure the email address you signed up with is correct so if we have to move we can send you an email letting you know when things are back to normal as we may need to move without notice (like last nights surprise shutdown...)

I thought it was just because I was in Fla that I couldn't get into the chat site. Good luck NJ95.

Still can't get into the chat. It says, "Done, but with errors on page" while it looks like the chat is stilll loading, and it never finishes loading. Oh well . . .
